Supporting Denbigh

Just lately prices have risen massively, especially food and petrol. We need to support our local traders. By shopping locally we not only support our local shops but we save on petrol used making our shop 'greener'. Denbigh has a wide variety of shops including fresh local vegetables, fruits, meats, flowers, fish. Our town is better off for having a variety of shops - but we will lose them unless we use them! Get fit in the process and take a break in one of the fantastic cafes or pubs.

Is 'nature' your cup of tea?

Two Denbigh women, beauty salon owner Julie Howatson-Broster of Visage and Dolhyfryd Estate cook Kate Foley, are taking part in BBC Wales TV series, Not in my Nature and viewers will be able to watch as they ditch their creature comforts to get closer to nature.

Seven recruits are currently filming for the six-part series broadcast from Monday June 23 on BBC One Wales at 8.30pm in which wildlife expert Iolo Williams attempts to convert them to the wonders of Welsh nature.

Living in North Wales with the coast, fields and mountains on our doorstep - do you get out there much to explore or do you prefer to love it from the window?

You can check out interactive maps for the lowdown on some of Wales' wonderful wildlife hotspots and all the amazing species to look out for on the Not in My Nature website.

New Town Maps

New interpretation panels are being installed in three car parks in Denbigh to improve links to the town centre, castle and town walls. The issue of limited signage was highlighted in the Denbigh Business Action Plan and following consultation with the Town Council and Business Group the ‘Explore Denbigh’ project was developed.

The new interpretation panels are being located in Vale Street, Factory Ward and Castle car parks. In addition to the interpretation panels new finger posts within the town centre highlighting routes to the Castle and Town Walls are also being installed. The new interpretation has been designed in such a way that it gives a birds eye visual of the town, indicating the various points of interest and the paths around the castle and nearby woodland, encouraging visitors and residents to ‘Explore Denbigh’.

The new interpretation panels have been funded through Cadwyn Clwyd Leader+, with the new finger posts funded through DESSERT, an EU Objective One project.

Denbigh Scouting Association

On Wednesday 30th April  Denbigh 1st Brynbach Scout Group held their AGM.

At a very well attended AGM held in the Scout Hall, Middle Lane Denbigh parents were told of the poor current repairs to the building and the lack of funding to enable even basic repairs to be undertaken.

It was an historic moment when a vote was sought for a proposal which would give authority to the Executive Committee to proceed with the sale of land and building, which would remove the liability of building maintenance, and provide some much needed cash which could be better used on scouting activities for the Cubs and Scouts of Denbigh.

Scouting will continue to thrive in Denbigh. The new committee are looking at new venues to hold scout meetings, a new home is being sought out. For anyone interested the Cubs meet 7:00 - 8:30 pm on Tuesdays and Scouts meet on Friday's from 7:30 - 9:30pm. New Cubs (8 - 10yrs) are always welcome, as are Scouts (10 - 14yrs). Come along and join us.

A Sell Out for Sellers - Theatr Twm o'r Nant

A SHOWCASE of local talent played to a packed community theatre, about to undergo major re-furbishment work.

Theatr Twm o'r Nant in Denbigh came alive last Thursday evening(March 13th) with comedy and musical performances headlined by John Sellers.

The comedian, singer and musician's acoustic show featured a line-up of local acts lapped up by an appreciative audience.

There were powerful, vocal performances from Sarah Davies and Linda Thompson plus various guitar sets from John Evans, father & son Nigel and Martin Peters, Steve Rickard, Stewart Jones and Sefton Herman.

Penni Neale gave us music and mirth while poet Tony 'The Painter' Jones was a tidy bard with comic verse.

The duo on keyboards and drums were loyal backing musicians to all.  This was live theatre at its best enjoyed by local residents.  Lots of laughs and home-grown entertainment - better than a night in front of the box.

Time is running out for Denbighshire residents to have their say as part of the consultation on the North Wales Regional Waste Plan.

The original consultation period has now been extended until February
29th, to allow interested parties to submit their comments.

In the past Wales has relied on landfill for the disposal of its waste from households, commerce and industry.  Much of this waste is capable of being re-used, recycled, composted or treated to recover valuable materials and energy.

There are statutory targets in place at EU,UKand Welsh Assembly Government level that require all local authorities to divert increasing amounts of waste from landfill.  To divert this waste from land fill we will need a number of new facilities across the North Wales region.

If you would like to comment on the plan please click on Regional Waste Plan document under the Public Protection page, which can be accessed through the A-Z on Denbighshire's website: www.denbighshire.gov.uk

Official Launch of the Denbigh Town Jute Bag

In this time of growing environmental concern small initiatives count, whether they be Council re-cycling schemes or individual actions.  One of the biggest blights on our Town is the disposal Plastic Bag; which litters our streets and has a high carbon cost.

The re-usable ‘’Jute Bag’ attempts to change this.  From manufacture to user the bag has been carefully sourced and transported to have the smallest impact possible.

It is with great pride that Denbigh is seen to be taking a lead and it is hoped others will follow.  Thanks to Denbigh Town Council and the Denbigh Business Groups foresight to fund this initiative and give it the importance it deserves.

The Jute Bag will be officially launched through the Denbigh Shops on Friday 4th January. The cost of the bag is £1.00 - don't delay get yours today.

Every little helps!
